| Class I: | Easy--Small waves. |
| Class II: | Medium--Rapids of moderate difficulty with passages clear. |
| Class III: | Difficult--Waves numerous, high, irregular; rocks; eddies; rapids with passages clear though narrow. |
| Class IV: | More Difficult--Long rapids; waves high, irregular; dangerous rocks; boiling eddies; best passages difficult to scout; scouting mandatory first time; powerful and precise maneuvering required. |
| Class V: | Moderately Difficult--We do one Class V waterfall on the White Salmon River. We're good, and we're used to it. No worries. |
| Class VI: | Unraftable--We don't even do these ourselves. |
