About the Deschutes River

  • On a scale from wild to mild, this is a mild river. Great for first-timers and small children.
  • Oregon's most popular river! Class 3 to 3+, June through September.

  • The Deschutes river means "The Rapids" in French. It consists of big class III rapids named "Boxcar", "Oak Springs", "Elevator" and more.
  • This River offers a splashing day in the sun with lots of water fighting. We recommend you be prepared by bringing water guns and buckets.
  • All river trips are economically priced.
  • Day trips include deli style lunch served riverside.
  • The Deschutes is a warm river, so usually wetsuits, booties, etc. aren't even needed. (Always available upon request.)
  • Camping available all along the Deschutes River.

All prices includes a riverside lunch, wetsuits, splash jackets, and life jackets. Booties and helmets available upon request.

What to bring Your river trip includes guides, rafts, paddles, shuttles and a life jacket. We can bring splash jackets and booties if you request them. Bathing suits can be worn if it is a nice hot day and/or shorts. No cotton or denim. We suggest bringing water guns for water fighting and a towel for changing later. Also, if you need to wear glasses on the river it is a good idea to have glasses holders. We will have glasses retainers for sale riverside if you forget yours. A hat with a string attached is also a good idea. See you there!

Class I: Easy--Small waves.
Class II: Medium--Rapids of moderate difficulty with passages clear.
Class III: Difficult--Waves numerous, high, irregular; rocks; eddies;
rapids with passages clear though narrow.
Class IV: More Difficult--Long rapids; waves high, irregular;
dangerous rocks; boiling eddies; best passages difficult to scout;
scouting mandatory first time; powerful and precise maneuvering required.
Class V: Moderately Difficult--We do one Class V waterfall on the White Salmon River. We're good, and we're used to it. No worries.
Class VI: Unraftable--We don't even do these ourselves.
