What to Expect on the Klickitat River

Klickitat River Whitewater Trip (May through June)

The whitewater river trip on the Klickitat is from May to the end of June.  The river gets its water from snow melt so we never know for sure how long it will last. The best water levels are usually in late May and early June. The rapids are mostly class 3 or 3+ although at high water it is a solid class four river. The remoteness and lava cliffs define the trip as a wilderness whitewater adventure.

Our trips on the Klickitat River meet daily at 9:00 at the Adventure Center where you receive your wetsuit, booties, exclusive paddle jacket, lifejacket and helmet.  We then take a van ride to the put in where we launch our custom made purple Sotar rafts.  There, the head guide will give a talk.  After that, we launch and experience multiple class three to four rapids for several hours.  The trip has one easy portage (walk around) near the fish hatchery. After loading back up in the rafts, the tour will continue downstream for a few more hours.  We splash through class three rapids and gaze at the awesome view of Paradise Falls.  At trips end, we will enjoy a well-deserved deli-style lunch served riverside.

The whole float takes approx. 5 to 6 hrs.

Cost is $65.00 to $75.00 per person plus Washington State Tax of 7% and includes everything above.  We do request a $20.00 per person deposit to reserve your seat on a raft. Ask about group and non-profit pricing and discounts for children under 16. Minimum seating is 4 to 6 paddlers.

Klickitat River Scenic Trip (May through September)

We also run a scenic trip on the next 8 miles of the river, starting at Leidle Park and running to the town of Klickitat.  This trip features eagle and wild life viewing plus great fishing but no real big rapids.

The cost is $70.00 per person and includes the deli-style lunch! Other options are available.
